ran across an unusual number of photos of people wrapping themselves up with lights; maybe it's a symbolic gesture of some sort

Much as the photographer in me truly appreciates the lit up streets during the long winter nights (and short winter days), the environmentalist in me cringes at the thought of the amount of excess energy that is generated "in the Christmas spirit" for weeks on end, all over the world.

I'm a little torn on this issue.

Absolutely spectacular! I'll enjoy it without the guilt. It's only once a year, folks.

Some of my best memories as a kid were the lights during the holidays. The lights were the one thing that lasted the longest. Most of the holiday celebrations were gone in a day, but not the lights.

Sometimes, the folks from the retirement homes would drive by in their bus or van to see the lights. These people don't get out much.

I guess if I had a home somewhere outside of the city (and not in a Boston apartment) I'd sit in the dark for eleven months or do something to make up the for the excess.

The lights and energy just reminded me of the movie with Chevy Chase - Christmas Vacation. He puts up thousands of lights on his house. I think when he plugs it in, every house in the ne...

alan, that's one of my favorite movies! I've seen it about 20 times and still laugh! Just saw it again the other night with a group of friends. It was a great time for all! Another nice Christmas memory.

I don't remember where I heard this news, but someone told me that Chevy Chase was going to come back to Saturday Night Live as a cast member. I'm sure I didn't dream that one up.

Gobsmacked! How beautiful. Christmas is really something else in the northern hemisphere.

I love the warm soft glow of Christmas lights. It makes things look so dreamy.

Patrick and I went to LA to see his sister - got back a couple days ago - so glad to be back!

I hope the holidayz were good for everyone. I'm so staying in for New Years though!

I was able to get on the computer on Christmas Eve, and ran across an article that I submitted to Digg (which is rare). So the article ended up making the home page of Digg on Christmas Day! I couldn't believe my eyes. Here's a link to the Digg article: When the intolerant kill Christmas: My Gay Friend's Holiday Story.

The content of the story is close to home for me, so it was really nice to see it get po...

Such a good article Alan. I'm clipping it privately so that I can read all the comments Someone said that the greatest thing we can do for our heavenly Father, is to be kind to His creation. Oh, what a world we would have if everyone were just a little kinder and a lot less judgmental.

I encourage you to clip it, Alan.
