This is the saddest document I've read in some time, the King's essay. He made some very strong points, bringing to mind current hot buttons: U.S. native Americans and "illegal immigrants." I also wondered how many Jews, after 1945, did get into the U.S or Britain. I've just spent about two hours on the Net and couldn't find an answer. But did find interesting material to help fill my woeful ignorance of the history of that part of the world's suffering.

What does this mean?

Contains this: "In the independent capitalist countries the struggle for free immigration is part and parcel of the struggle for socialism." Which brought to my mind America's Red Scare; how Jews were closely associated with bolsheviks, anarchists; the history of anti-Semitism in the U.S., esp ruling class ie Henry Ford, U.S. economic ties to Nazi Germany; Project Paperclip, etc. How many dispossed East European (penniless) Jews got homes in the U.S. 1945-48?

The complexity of the issue and the enormous suffering now and in days to come makes my head spin. We can only pray/hope that the obvious outcome, at this point, does not happen.
