Too many doctors forget their serment of Hypocrates, swearing that helping ill people comes first and money only afterwards.

A basic health care must be guaranteed for the poorest, even illegals.

Or is america counting on Medecins without Fronteers???

It's actually kind of sad how cheap the candidates go for... Imagine being able to get a $110 billion subsidy for a few million in campaign contributions??? Talk about a return on your investment!

The impression seems to be that the sick exist for the sake of the health insurance industry, doctors, and pharmaceutical companies. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around ?

Exactly, pokkets. Such is the weakness of capitalism, when it is not balanced by protection of those who can be abused or ignored by profit-seekers.

Does it really surprise anyone that Hillary has other hidden agendas while running for president? Her boost in health care would give families that make about $85,000 a year access to free health insurance. Why do Americans need to pay for the people that can afford it?!?!?!?!?

Joey - while I'm not a fan of Hillary's plan, that $85,000 figure is a Bush creation that no one else has been able to replicate. It just is another goofy Bushism - like linking Iraq to 9/11, like saying there are 36 nations in the coalition. He can say it, and lots of people believe it, and I guess he accomplishes his purpose even without it having to be true.
There are a very few areas (New York City is one) where poor people must pay very high housing fees and yet still have very little money. For those, I think plans generally bump up the threshold a bit. But it isn't nationwide, it is still to people who can't afford health insurance, and it is nowhere near $85,000.

People who criticize universal health care as "socialized medicine" are ignoring the fact that a for-profit shareholder-driven health industry can only respond to the bottom line. The only hope for truly putting patient care first and foremost is to take the profit incentive out of the equation.

Bravo Jorjor, well said! Strange, isn't it, that "socialized" is still a curse word in American culture? Seems like the ghost of McCarthyism. And we remain so blind to the fact that unless someone can make a buck at it, it doesn't get done here (eg, healthcare for poor people).
