But two wrongs does not make one right, or you can't correct a wrong by another wrong. I found this commentary noteworthy because I believe Bush administration is using the "Iran issue" to keep on expanding its military strategies in the Middle East which will put the world in further troubles in upcoming years. Believe me, Bush gang's prayers and hopes are with an Iranian agressive action which would make easy to justify this 4 years military program. I don't know how you feel about it but such a "warfare atmosphere" would definitely cost much to Americans too, with some horrible results both economically and socially (and Politically of course.) It's crazy to waste billions of dollars to this irrational "preemptive" strategies while American people has some very urgent needs like health, education and social security. Same for the allies of the USA - like my country.

I agree with you regarding American urgent needs, I'd also agree if you stated that it's totally idiotic to have the Congress absolutely waste time on totally useless resolutions, like they just passed regarding the war in Iraq. But I disagree with your feelings on Iran and US military expansion. First, Bush has no reason to do a 4-year stint, considering he'll be out in 1. Second, we don't have enough troops to do a major expansion in the Middle East, even if we wanted to. I know it, you know it and certainly Bush knows it even better than we do. The biggest problem I see with your notion is that Iran isn't a silent & harmless lamb. We don't have any disagreement there, but if they do build a nuke (certainly a plausible possibility based on what we do know) and if he's crazy enough to do what he said, very publicly and a number of times, in terms of using on someone...like Israel - where would that leave everyone? How many lives are we talking lost, what kind of a conflict would arise, what would be left of Iran, for starters etc.? What I'm saying is a theory, but it's based on a number of things that have happened and are happening which make it plausible. Bush wants to avoid this, and I totally support him in that endeavor. The escalation of troops in Iraq has nothing to do with US escalation in the Middle East... it's sole function is to stabilize Baghdad, which in essence would be stabilization of Iraq, since Baghdad is where vast majority of terrorism is going on in that country.

Iran isn't an excuse. Iran is a serious threat, has been more or less since Jimmy Carter's days, when he assisted in replacing a bad regime with a much worse one. The results are on the table. We have the mess in Lebanon because of them, either some or most of the crap going on it Iraq is fueled/instigated/originated in Iran. And now we have to deal with a possibility of them developing nukes... and we all know the saying 'anything that can be used - can be abused'
