ColoradoRight says: I love the idea that the government has to "recover some of this money". The idea that all money belongs to the government and they might give some away but will take it all back is at the heart of our problems with big government. My money, that I worked for and sweated for and already have half taken away in taxes of one sort or another - that is my money not the governments. And any suggestion that I am keeping too much of my work efforts is not only obscene, but disingenuous. Add it up - what do you pay every year in social security taxes and medicare taxes and federal income taxes and state income taxes and local income taxes and state sales taxes and county sales taxes and local sales taxes and property taxes and to get a license plate for your car and the taxes on any property you sell and the taxes on your phone line and the taxes on your cell phone and the taxes on your water bill and taxes on your electricity bill and your garbage bill and .... And then we are tol Those folks just believe there is a never-ending pot of money out there, and that they own it. They're trying to make everyone equal; ie, guaranteeing results. The problem with trying to create equal results is that it doesn't work. And it's a disincentive to those who would otherwise take risks with their money and time. Why bother if the outcome is already predetermined? They should be guaranteeing opportunity. Oh, dear! The cad expects rich people to actually pay their rightful tax, just like everyone else. Everyone knows only poor people pay tax! That statement is enshrined in the annals of the manipulation of America by the rich. If the rich and corporations pay their rightful tax, then yes, there is no shortage of money out there for the government to use. Oooh, wanting to make everyone equal, too. Why, that sounds downright democratic! None of that in fascist Corporate Republican America! They'll have to nip that in the bud! Giving people equal opportunity and "making them equal" are not the same thing. Of course, the word equal is there in both phrases so its possible that those with a public education might misunderstand the difference. However, "making" people equal is coercion - in other words its oppression of all to make outcomes "the same". This has always been shown to be a) impossible to achieve (nee Soviet Union, Venezuela, Cuba, etc) and b) ultimately destructive to any society that tries it either through loss of oopportunity or the outright murder of those who defy the "equalizers". Some more taxes everybody pays: federal gas tax, state gas tax, federal excise taxes on imported goods, Stamp taxes on property deeds of sale, ...... darkeforce, you are utterly CLUELESS...want to know who pays taxes or would you prefer to live in your perpetual state of ignorance? Check this absolutely non-partisan site out if indeed you want the TRUTH! http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/23408.html John McCain on taxing rich people Republicans have spent more than they have taken in for over 25 years, yet you rail against taxes. Fix the republican party. Give Americans a real choice. McCain will spend more than he takes in. How can you be okay with that? Why do you only express your anger at the Democrats? The Republican party is way more egregious for moving from the party platform towards ever increasing deficit spending. Madness. "All men are created equal." Sound familiar? It should. Your nation was founded on that principle. Who are you to come along and say all people aren't equal? There's a word for people like you. Fascist. Sparling, pay attention to what percentage of their income is being paid by each group in tax. The Rich are far from paying their fair share, and many of the top corporations DON'T PAY ANY TAX AT ALL!! Get a clue. $10,000 in tax is nothing for someone who makes $5 million a year, but it's a huge amount of tax for someone who only makes $150,000 a year. Try keeping things in context. And you should be very glad that those corporations don't pay any tax - if in fact this is true. Otherwise you would be paying much more for whatever product or service they provide. Do you think business taxes come from the tooth fairy? They come out of every consumer's pocket. A very nice way to hide just how much the government is extracting from you every single day. And one question? So what is a "fair share"? If almost half of all people are paying no income tax - what is a fair share? Everything? Will the Messiah make it against the law to earn more than $250K? Which would make his $7.4 million last year illegal. CR I am sure that you are aware that Obama's tax plan is a rollback to rates under Clinton and Reagan. The economy screamed under those two Presidents. Either taxes had little to do with it, or they had a lot. What do you think? Deficit spending is the enemy, not Obama's tax plan. The Republican party has become the deficit spending party. Can't call Dems the only liberals anymore. That used to work before the Bush's. Call them hawks, call them moral police, but not fiscal conservatives. Today the top 5% pay 60% of income taxes. Under the dot-com bubble years of Clinton they paid 55%. Under Reagan it was 48%. But they aren't paying enough - they need to be punished. If you wanted more income you would cut capital gains taxes. Every time that occurs more money comes into the Treasury than before. But The Blessed One said he didn't care about that - he wants less money but more "fairness". So raise them rates guys. You will end up with less money. But more of the RichPunishment (TM) will make you feel better. And as for spending, we did see a huge drop in government spending under the Democrats the last 2 years didn't we? The Government has become the goodie bag. ... Here's where we agree-the goodie bag has been open for both parties over the last 8 years. Part of the reason is that we are spending so much in Iraq that there is little left for American capital investment with taxes this low. Now Bush could veto anything he wants on spending but hasn't. That said, your tax argument includes a bit of spin. The top 5 % are so much more ridiculously wealthy than 10-20 years ago . So when you use your argument of 5% paying 60% it's really misleading. The tax RATES are the same. The tax amounts($) are higher because incomes are higher. Low capital gains tax over the last 8 years did not expand the economy, did nothing to help America. NOthing. Your argument is dead in the water. But would anyone care to guess when was the last year in which the government spent less than the year before?I haven't a clue. That question seems to have no good point unless we have a declining population. Or maybe you advocate cutting social programs that arent even funded. Or ending hawkish defense policy. What is the point? The issue you, me and everyone else should be most concerned about is spending more than you take in. Who is the last President who didn't do THAT? What happened to fiscal conservatism? — Comment removed by clipper — You can go to the IRS website and see that 38% of all Americans pay NO income tax. But they will get a tax cut per Mr. Hopey Changey. In other words - money for nothing. Used to be called welfare. CR- help me out, I'm having a problem understanding how someone at a zero tax rate can get a cut--this is a serious question. I mean no sarcasm. How do you pay less than zero taxes? Ir you read the IRS website properly, you will see that 38% of Americans pay no additional income tax. Tax is still deducted from their paycheques. The deducted amount just happens to either balance out, or else the person is rich, and they pay no tax whatsoever because they can afford tricky accountants who can take advantage of all the tax loopholes. That category also indicates that those people get no tax refunds. Obama's plan will offset the payroll taxes that the middle class pays, and help those who are living beneath their means. Yes, we all know you don't give a damn about the poor, ColoradoRight. No need to say it. If you deduct it and then give it all back - or cut them a check for more than they paid - its not tax. Its shuffling money around for accounting purposes. And if they don't end up paying tax, they don't pay tax. Only in "progressive" world is reality called unreality. The fundamental question for me is "have tax cuts to big business and the rich via capital gains or tax rate cuts at the top stimulated the economy over the last 8 years?" If the answer is no, the answer is NO. Only in Colorado world is reality unreality. Trickle down is a nice theory, but it hasn't worked very well under this Republican presidency and 6 years of a Republican congress. McCain is more of the same. He didn't used to be (he once called Bush's cuts a bad idea because of deficit spending), it's against his 30 years of service, but he's pandering to the Colorado Right in a desperate attempt to get elected. McCain is also in favor of bailing out the homeowners and socializing... If you want less of something - tax it. So if you want less business activity - tax the crap out of it. After all businesses pay taxes in a vacuum - they won't pass that cost on to their consumers. Or lay off employees. Or buy less, or invest less. Or just shut down. Does anybody think that "business" taxes come from the tooth fairy? Or out of the pocket of every consumer. Do people invest their money in order to just allow the government to take half (?) two-thirds (?) all (?) of their gains because they are mean nasty rich people who deserve to be punished? If you don't want people to save and invest tax the hell out of their income and investments and savings. And just how much... Thank you for saying McCain isn't the answer, but in your opinion, your only option. I think you'll be surprised, should Obama win, at the amount of jobs created by the incentives he will provide small businesses. We are going to spend but it will create a boom. Read some Shumpeter economics re capitalism-Obama is right there with giving entrepreneurs the capital they need to innovate, which is what makes America the best nation on earth. The problem with giving breaks to the big boyz is that they ship all the jobs and all the earnings overseas, which hurts, in more ways than lost tax revenues. They also stopped innovating long ago-out with the old, in with the new. Hope you get a chance ... McCain is definitely the answer if the question is giving power to Obama and his group of thugs. Free trade means expanding the amount of goods and services available to everyone - expanding the pie as it were. Those who engage in free trade will expand and grow. Those who build their protectionist walls end up impoverished and usually under some dictatorial regime. So really Deb - are you one of those axelrod trolls? Sure seems like it. And what do you intend to do when that "employment pie" is farmed off to a foreign nation because they can do it cheaper, and you end up out of a job. Oh, wait. I forgot. You live with mommy and daddy, don't you? It's really hilarious that you'd call Obama and his group thugs, when it's McCain and Palin who have been acting blatantly thuggish in this election. Who are the thugs? Volcker, Buffett, the hundreds of prominent conservatives who support Obama's economic plan? What protectionist wall? I am speaking of the coming powerful rally in innovation, and I want it based in America. Free trade around the world is positive and we'll engage in lots of it in an Obama presidency. If we don't, we die. He is a supporter of free trade, and a capitalist. What is an axelrod troll? Here's the bottom line...yes both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of pandering to their constituents with OPM (other people's money). GW has not been the fiscal conservative we hoped for. The one good thing that will come about should the "man-child" be elected is a purging and cleansing of the Republican party. I didn't support John McCain in the primaries...the only reason I am supporting him now is my firm belief that BHO's policies will plunge the country into a depression. I also believe that, despite public opinion, he will be far too deliberative in a crisis. There is certainly a time for deliberative thought, but there are also times when you have to trust your gut and instincts... So, let me get this straight; the one who actually has an economic plan, devised by some of the greatest financial experts in the nation, such as Warren Buffett, is going to plunge the nation into a depression, and the one who has devoted all his resources to dehumanizing his opponent, and who has no established financial policy whatsoever isn't? What colour is the sky in your world? I think we just have to call bs on Darkforce here - its obviously some kind of Alexrod blog troll. Just keep saying the smae old Obama talking points and keep replying. It's not BS when it's true and verifiable. I'm just here to defuse your lies and propaganda, so people might not get the impression that Americans are all greedy, self-centred, delusional scumbags. sparlingphoto-I understand your 2 concerns about Obama. I can see why you would be concerned about our country if you believe Obama will throw us into a depression and will take too long to respond to international crisis. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. McCain poses the greater risk for me, both in his prescription for the economy and his hawkish hothead approach to international affairs. If McCain is anything like Bush, he is the greater threat to our nation. Bush is the leader who has thrown our country to depths not seen in 80 years. McCain voted with him most of the time. We're not going to have a depression, but other countries might. We're going to have an innovation... I love the idea that the government has to "recover some of this money". The idea that all money belongs to the government and they might give some away but will take it all back is at the heart of our problems with big government. My money, that I worked for and sweated for and already have half taken away in taxes of one sort or another - that is my money not the governments. And any suggestion that I am keeping too much of my work efforts is not only obscene, but disingenuous. the deficit has doubled and grown by over $5-trillion in the past 8-years and realize that the cost to service that debt is about $250-Billion a year, or about $2,500 per taxpayer. The cost to service this over 30-years is over $7-Trillion.There are only a few ways to service this debt without making it worse. a. Grow the economy at 5%-7% per year for about 2-decades. b. Induce Inflation to pay it off in depreciated currency c. Increase taxes to fund the debt payments. You ought to be really mad at Republicans for allowing this to happen and McCain for supporting him 90% of the time. YOUR money has been stolen from you by the rich, with their amoral price manipulation, low wages and tax evasion. And yet, you aren't up in arms about that. Odd, really, that you wouldn't want the government; your servant, to recoup your money from the people that stole it from you. I love the idea that the government has to "recover some of this money". The idea that all money belongs to the government and they might give some away but will take it all back is at the heart of our problems with big government. My money, that I worked for and sweated for and already have half taken away in taxes of one sort or another - that is my money not the governments. And any suggestion that I am keeping too much of my work efforts is not only obscene, but disingenuous How does the government recovering that money somehow make it theirs? You're totally illogical. An inheritance lawyer doesn't own the inheritance money he distributes to the heirs. However, it does cost money to maintain the roads that you drive on to get to work and to stores, and to employ the policemen that keep you safe, and to employ the firemen that may just save your life, and many other things. If you want to enjoy the benefits of living in society, then you have to pay for it. If you think that you can just live in your city or town for free, you're seriously deluded. You have to pay your bills; just some of those bills are called taxes. I love the idea that the government has to "recover some of this money". The idea that all money belongs to the government and they might give some away but will take it all back is at the heart of our problems with big government. My money, that I worked for and sweated for and already have half taken away in taxes of one sort or another - that is my money not the governments. And any suggestion that I am keeping too much of my work efforts is not only obscene, but disingenuous Feel free to give all your money to Obama. I'm sure he will take it. But then don't come to me crying poor. Obama says that his “cap and trade” policy for controlling greenhouse gas emissions is going to cost electricity prices to “skyrocket.” Oops … there goes some of that middle class “tax cut.” Guess he’ll have to transfer some more wealth to help his constituents pay the increased price. Or maybe you will have to pay your own electricity bills? Dear God no - we will have a government agency of Electricity for Poor People. Paid for by the top 5% of course. What is that level of rich down to now? Last I heard it was $120K Oh yes - and your gasoline will be taxed about $5 a gallon - on top of what you pay today. That middle class tax cut just keeps getting pared away. And of course your state taxes will have to go up in order to match the rate of the federal government. What is that "tax cut/welfare check" coming to now? And that's not even counting the trillions of dollars you are going to have to pay out for the Ponzi scheme of Social Security. Lots of baby boomers you are going to be working for all your life. and all that "free" health care everybody is going to be getting. Man - that top 5% is just going to be paying and paying. Or it just might be that every working person in America will be paying taxes till their eyeballs bleed. And then be assessed a toxic medical waste cleanup charge on the blood too. Is English not your first language? Obama's tax plans are only going to mean tax increases for the top 5% of the population. Unless that's you, you won't be affected. And you really have to open your eyes and realize just how many so-called free services and utilities you make use of every day just get magically funded, then you're seriously deluded. Running a country costs money, skippy, and in exchange for keeping the roads intact and hiring police and other public employees to make your life easier and safer, you have to pay taxes. If you want to keep every last cent that you earn, then go move to a deserted island, with no modern conveniences. Otherwise, stop whining like a little bitch about taxes. Gas taxed to $5 a gallon? I call bullshit on that. Where's your proof? That's just another desperate McCain lie. Give it up; you lost, and America won. I love the idea that the government has to "recover some of this money". The idea that all money belongs to the government and they might give some away but will take it all back is at the heart of our problems with big government. My money, that I worked for and sweated for and already have half taken away in taxes of one sort or another - that is my money not the governments.
