A 12 pound monkey in North Carolina activated a 200 pound robot to walk on a treadmill using only brain activity. It was the first time this had occured. The Duke University lab team proved that monkeys could use their thoughts to control mechanical/electronic devices. </P><IMG width="40" height="28" align="left" src="http://www.trendhunter.com/images/blockquote.gif" /> These experiments, Dr. Nicolelis said, are the first steps toward a brain machine interface that might permit paralyzed people to walk by directing devices with their thoughts. Electrodes in the person’s brain would send signals to a device worn on the hip, like a cell phone or pager, that would relay those signals to a pair of braces, a kind of external skeleton, worn on the legs (nytimes)</SPAN> </DIV></blockquote><div style="height: 2px; font-size: 2px; background: #dcdcdc; border-bottom: solid 1px #f5f5f5; margin: 2px 4px;"></div><blockquote style="text-align: left; padding: 0px 8px; margin: 4px 0px 8px 0px; background: transparent; border: none;" cite="http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/advancements-in-robotics-controls-monkey-thinks-robot-acts"><div align="center"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SSaBOd4pQpM&rel=1&border=1" height="329" width="400" wmode="opaque" quality="high" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></div></blockquote></div><div style="margin: 0px 6px 6px 4px;"><table style="font-size: 11px;border-spacing: 0px;padding: 0px;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tr><td style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;"> </td><td align="right" style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;width:107px" width="107"><a href="http://clipmarks.com/share/06941FA5-CCE0-48CC-A1A2-84C7BD65FC30/blog/" title="blog or email this clip"><img src="http://content8.clipmarks.com/images/c2b-foot.png" border="0" alt="blog it" width="107" height="17" style="border-width:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px;" /></a></td></tr></table></div></div>
