Bad idea. Property righst are not absolute, but they are not irrelevant either. Also throw in freedom of expression and worship to the mix.

Shouldn't that have been one of those things the members of the HOA voted on? If a majority of the members voted for the ban, then that serves the purpose of having a HOA. If the board members arbitrarily decided the issue, I imagine there would be a legal case.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but what's the difference between forcing your religion down my throat (imo, having a religious statue in your yard makes me have to see it every day unless I take another route) and me having a nude statue in my yard? IMO either both should be allowed or neither.

I find religious statues offensive, I think they are there to proclaim that you support that religion and that others should as well.
