Socratoad says: I've never been more ashamed of my country than I am at this moment I saw the raw footage on TV yesterday evening and was horrified, enraged, and devastated at the way this new immigrant to Canada was mistreated by the RCMP, the airport security people, and the Customs & Immigration staff, all culminating in his ghastly death. The only people who had any compassion or made any attempt to help this man were other passengers waiting in the area, two of whom filmed the ordeal. The interviews with his poor mother just broke my heart. The man's dying struggles, probably just to breathe since one of the officers had his knees pinning the man's head and neck to the ground after two taserings and after the man could not get up to hurt anyone, are just ... Too many people are suffering from tasers to justify their use by anyone, especially police officers so eager to play with their fancy, powerful toys that they forget that it is a human being they are supposed to protect, not abuse.Do tasers reduce shootings by Police? Do people want uncompromising control from their police force? Is it better to shock someone than to shoot him/her? Is this a safe alternative? Personally I think some cops who would never dream of shooting a loud-mouthed student won't hesitate to taze them repeatedly under the guise of restoring control. And that is not, in my opinon, is not improving safety for the public. So very sad The guy just looked mentally disturbed, and there didn't seem any reason to taze, with such close proximity and three to one, they could have just arrested him. What's going on in Canada What's going on arifsali is that at present we have a bunch of right-wing kooks and misfits running the government, thus setting both policy and tone, and lack of empathy for all but the very wealthy and the morally bankrupt. Oh lest I forget: They are G.W. Bush ass-kissers of great skill and enthusiasm. Just think, If he only had his phone charger plugged into his asshole. Oh well. The guy just looked mentally disturbed, and there didn't seem any reason to taze,Oh yes, another new toy that needed to be tried out at the first opportunity.... This is not the first death as a result of these weapons, 268 in USA for example... Canada, hang your head in shame. I'm glad I left when I did (1987)! |
