Clipmarks

Well it's too late for me I reckon, so I might as well just keep on keepin' on peacefully protesting. Now more than ever, it seems so necessary. This is another "I dare you" clip. Are they trying to scare, intimidate or threaten people to the point, that they just don't dare comment or clip or pop or blog or speak out anymore? Should I just cave in and "turn myself in" quarterly and bow down to oppression? I think not. I will not be silenced. If I ever stop clipping about all this, you'll know why. See ya in Guantanamo!

- The White House's own recently de-classified strategy for "winning the war on terror" targets Internet conspiracy theories as a recruiting ground for terrorists and threatens to "diminish" their influence.

- Chertoff pledged to dispatch Homeland Security agents to local police departments in order to aid in the apprehension of domestic terrorists who use the Internet as a political tool.

And what would THIS mean to the future of clipmarks as a whole?

- A landmark legal ruling in Sydney goes further than ever before in setting the trap door for the destruction of the Internet as we know it and the end of alternative news websites and blogs by creating the precedent that simply linking to other websites is breach of copyright and piracy.

Take action:

As well as calling the Senate you should go to GrassrootsFreedom.com which has a petition that you can sign against Section 220 of S. 1, the lobbying reform bill.

I haven't fully digested this yet, but I think we need to be concerned with its implications. I don't want to have to visit my wife of 39 years in jail, or maybe even GITMO....I don't think orange is her favorite color. She has been author of a web page called "ThinkingBlue" for years now. Check the page out at http:\\thinkingblue.blogspot.com , or click here
She has recently been able to add video clips directly to her page. She is definitely getting good at it. In my defense, I must say that she has a much better computer than I have.

I will send the links to some of these news stories to my partner in crime, and I'll bet she has this all over her web page by this afternoon! We will also contact the politicians, and take action!

@travislaborde

No, I don't think they would actually. Have you ever clipped from a site that wasn't you're own or just posted a link maybe, not just to a "protesting" site, but to anywhere at all? Then you would be in breach of the new laws proposing to shut down the whole of free internet too. I suppose ALL our clips would be illegal then, unless they link to our own sites. So maybe you you should chew over the whole article again just to make sure you're "in the clear". All the new attacks on net neutrality are a threat to everyone.

Have you ever downloaded or uploaded music or movies or spread "propaganda"? (Yes you have...right-winged, but propaganda nonetheless) Ever clipped a single clip that didn't "belong" to you? Anything at all? Hmm? Just wondering.

Good on ya shreibe. The only thing we can do, is yet again peacefully protest this whole infringement on our freedoms and stand up against totalitarianism. Good on ya and do say hello to the missus from me. .

The sky is not falling. It only applies to paid lobbyists. And even then you simply have to register as a lobbyist.

Not quite...in Section 220 of S. 1 it says "even bloggers" and furthermore:

In other words Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats may redefine the meaning of lobbying in order that political communications to and even between citizens falls under the same legislation.
I think that definitely warrants a little concern, if we indeed wish to prevent the risk of "the sky falling"...don't you?

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm just one little fish in a HUGE and ever-expanding ocean of protesters and they can't drag us all off... but then again the good go first! *LOL*

I'd still like to know what all this would mean for places like clipmarks and for bloggers and stuff. And it would be no biggy for them to just set a computer to spit out fines, if nothing else, at lightning speed to anyone and everyone they like. Infringing on the 1. amendment and restricting free speech is still not anything I'm happily going to go along with, that's for sure. Not even.

Sending poop to someone is argued as free speech (see clip "Poop Prank or Free Speech"), but expressing yourself with words is not? What can these people be thinking?

Great article! Absolutely fantastic and thanks for finding it! Yay! And you should know me by now n2sooners? I'll stand by anyone, as long as they do the right thing. It's not the who, but the what. Peace, liberty and justice for all! Oh, not to forget the all important free speech (coz I love to talk) Ha ha. You're my hero of the day n2sooners

As for this Ms Pelosi. Doesn't it sound as if she was going to go along with this bill? Hmm... I dunno. I haven't had enough time to looked into this enough to know, because I only just found this clip and have been quite blown away by the implications ever since, but if she's up to no good, then I'll just have to clip some stuff about her too....

Yeah and like I or anyone else would pay such a fine. They might try to make this happen, but I think it will be difficult. I mean technically I would set up my hosting in another country that offers free speech (oh -wait we are suppose to have that here). It would be easy to create a "pen name" and just blog through proxies. So could they stop it, hell no. Could they make it more challenging to get word out - yes. Heck they might even go after those that read the blog.
Can anyone say NewsSpeak and 1984?

I don't want to die in jail!!!!!! But I will not cave. Freedom of Speech is a right that many died for -- take that away and there is no democracy -- not even the illusion of one.
Somebody please wake me up; get me out of this twilight zone.
Last week I took a verbal beating, which ended in the other person saying "I still have my gn". We argued over Troops in Iraq fighting for "my rights".
Next comes the book burnings.

Where is that feature were a person can delete a comment they made? Hey, I can't find that button. I firmly believe that a general opinion and reaction to current news is often less offensive than the comedy that we see today. Lets see... there will be a total change in Late night talk shows; all new writers for sure. Viewers...we're talking millions of viewers, Now bloggers only get 500 readers. Well since RSS feed gets sent out and pings services to registered it the number is always higher than on incoming visitors. Even if you put something as "private feed",you couldn't tag it because if you did it would still be read by 500 or more. So that means almost every blog and a ton of com...

send all your blogs to me & i'll put them on the net from the uk, thats unless we become the 53rd state of course, but then Blair is on his way out thanks be to ?

Right, karl marx, because with communism we would probably not be allowed to say this in the first place.

I don't see how this could be constitutional, wouldn't it put all op-ed writers out of business as well? Have to learn more about the legislation.

Stupid question: Aren't they just asking you to register your opinion? I don't do politics much (I just don't understand them much), and I realize that they're baby steps to infringement, but they never said you COULDN'T say what you were saying. Just that you had to register your site as left, right, or center winged in order to say it...

I could be wrong, but that was my first interpretation of it...

Kind of like having to register as dem or repub when you sign up to vote... (regardless of whether you vote that way or not...)

It seems to me that any news reporter (note key word: ANY) should fall under this law as well. How many times have I witnessed biased news reports and slams??? Might as well include the "freedom of the press" in this and not just political bloggers. The news is a form of blogging is it not?

What a crapload....

However, am I to assume for now (cause I don't have time to read this entire thread just now), that political writers who are blogging.... are the ones singled out here? And not necessarily the normal jane and john doe who just gripe in a blog?
