Antara says: Shame on you SLU officials This is the second really disturbing article in a month about SLU (their advertising for ACORN jobs was the first). While the ACORN mess could be blamed on someone lower in the food chain, cancelling a well known speaker for his views is clear evidence that the rot started at the top. Yes, it's their university to run how they wish. Alumni are also free to donate to other causes. Freedom works that way. Boo hoo. Your concern is dogmatic. Where were your protests over the attacks on free speech, right to assemble, and pursuit of happiness during the G20? (cue the crickets) There is no right to assemble. There is a right to "peaceably assemble", which means to assemble without confrontation. In Horowitz's case, there was no confrontational purpose for the assembly. The purpose was to discuss ideas. You have an abusive perspective, bartender. On the one hand, you mock "boo hoo" regarding the outrageous bigotry that is so typical of leftists, then cry and moan about the idiocy of leftists inability to peaceably assemble. Bizarre. Saint Louis University is a PRIVATE university, I believe. The question then is, does the 1st amendment trump the 5th? SLU isn't invoking the fifth ammendment are they? They are just saying - we don't like what this person says and somebody might be offended by it so even though some of our students wish to hear what he has to say we will put our fingers in our ears and say NO! |
