Arsenic was listed as a treatment for more than 100 diseases, including jaundice, hydrophobia, elephantiasis, and impotence. Occasionally, agents that defy explanation were mentioned, such as aletris cordial, which allegedly was "prepared from Aletris farinosa or True Unicorn."
