One of the problems for the nation states must be that there are several ethnic regions; eg in Europe: Basque, Breton (perhaps), Catalan, Kurdish et al), any of which may follow a lead set by Kosovo and agitate for their own independence. A prospect not likely to prove very popular with nation states and, in the case of Belgium, would lead to the disintegration of it.
