Possibly relevant is Freud's point that biology would be required to take over from his ideas, and in this case it was particularly the oscillation of adolescent minds in adolescence (cp Klein's paranoid-schizoid 'love-hate' rapid cycling) involving projection ann introjection which were the basis of sublimational states then and ego development.
