i cannot see any reason why industries should be exempt from doing what is needed to try and combat this serious global problem and indeed they are well placed to take a substantial lead, instead of just doing nothing so they can continue to rake in their millions of dollars.

It is too late. They're still pretending we can plan. We cannot destroy the environment, but we can make it hostile. At worst case, a place where it is impossible for humanity to exist. That isn't a threat. It's an observation. It's hard to run a business when there are no customers. Still, There'll always be vending machines.
