Are Americans Hostile to Knowledge?I suspect knowledge and reason not to mean the same thing. I do not see Americans as hostile to knowledge in the sense that they maintain preconceived notions, acquire facts, and pursue resources. The problem is that for many Americans the pursuit of sources, preconceived notions, and ultimate point of view are dependent on one another. There is a stubborn relunctance to understand and engage in reason. There is an inherent bigotrty in the American psyche against a differing view and the use of reason and logic. But I think this is symptomatic of a broader human need and materialist dogma. I think your clip title, abailart, is more suitable. I wonder if Mr. Wiener (British Misery) saw this... Ms Jacoby is right on target. She makes a great case and can be heard on podcast discussing her book and some of the concepts in it, here. http://ffrf.org/radio/podcast/ |
