n2sooners says: I am pretty sure that a judicial ruling recently said that Christmas trees were a secular and not a Christian symbol. One commissioner has said that at least three of the five commissioners would like the Christmas trees to go back up at Sea-Tac Airport. ..as did the Rabbi, who was shocked at the reaction and removal of the trees. The one question I have is that if the Rabbi is so shocked, why the threat of a lawsuit? It's not clear from this article, but the way I heard it in brief discussion --that I admittedly didn't give full attention-- was that the Airport acted in anticipation of what they perceived as a potential lawsuit were they to not respond positively to the requests of the Rabbi. I saw an airport rep on the news just a few minutes ago and he said they were given 18 hours to either put up the menorah or take down the Christmas trees or there would be a lawsuit. They contacted their lawyer and decided that taking down the Christmas trees was the easiest way to go since it wouldn't lead to further lawsuits (from the next group that wanted this or that put up on display under threat of a lawsuit). Now, I'm not blaming the Rabbi here, I am blaming the system now in place where they decided that neither putting up the menorah nor saying no but leaving the trees up was a viable option. Thanks for the info. Either way, this is all lunacy. |
