AtlLiberal says: In God soaked American the last pocket of bigotry seems to be directed towards atheists. I'd venture to say that this is exclusively based on the false notion, propagated by organized religion, that lack of belief in a supreme being equates to being without morals or ethics. It's interesting to view our Canadian neighbors take on this pernicious form of prejudice. We'll see a Muslim president before an atheist. "seems to verge"? I think it crosses every reasonable boundary ever set concerning people's rights to form their own conclusions regarding spirituality. All kinds of "christians", from relatives to total strangers, have indulged in violating all semblance of courtesy and etiquette in order to force their religious views on me. They threaten, cajole, castigate, manipulate and all the while it's plain to see that they're gleefully getting off on excercising their dominant culture power trip. If the few constraints they are subject to were loosened up a little, they would be happy to subject me to burning at the stake while congratulating themselves about how gratifying it was to save my soul. ... @mcsmithblack It's appalling how many iniquities committed by the religious are forgiven when accompanied by a large smile and shows of false empathy. I'm skeptical if a return to burning at the stake is a logical outcome. I suspect you included that for effect rather than as fact. There are many avenues though that are open to them in curtailing basic freedoms such as laws limiting speech and freedom to assemble. |
