This is common sense to me, but if studies help, then these add to the consensus. I'm curious as to why some are against the death penalty. Is it because of possible rehabilitation, judicial errors, attitudes of inhumanity? I'm talking about premeditated murder, not accidental.

It is because of the likely-hood of executing an innocent person. Since 1973, 143 people have been exonerated in the U.S.A. due to various reasons. Each year, the number of wrongfully convicted people set free increases, as better technology and judicial review practices come to light. It is highly likely that innocent people have been executed for crimes they did not commit. It is also highly likely that the actual criminal is still loose. There are no numbers on the crimes committed by these individuals. But it is known that a person who commits premeditated murder has a much better chance of doing it again than someone who has never killed. The study doesn't take that into account.

I would think that with the use of DNA the chances of *innocents* being executed would be very slim, if not nil.

And I've never know of a case where the death sentence was carried out without ample opportunity to

oops. ...do extensive appeals. I would think that the percentage of murderers doing repeated murdering would be much higher.
