merrie says: Can Iran spark global conflict? Yes, but so can other nations, some of them far less dangerous than the regime run by Tehran’s atomic ayatollahs. It’s not only Mahmoud Ahmadinejad about whom we should be worried. Unfortunately, the international system is so fragile that almost any autocrat can commit the act that brings about global conflagration. Today, we see the same conditions that existed before World Wars I and II. I've been very much having that sense, although I was not around to know the build up to WWII, just in the last few days there seems to have been a "teaming up" of sorts going on among nations. Along with jitteriness on the parts of several countries, various "feelings" being offended around the world, and the infants we have running OUR govt.,it really could be any damn little thing that sets it off. And, today, I do not detect a comforting wisdom in our leaders. All the adults have died or grown too old to have any say. No one is manning the ship anymore. All the recent events in the ME are certainly disturbing, yet by 'allowing' the Quds force to stick their nose into the Iraq war, in my opinion, is encouraging more of the same. There aren't any easy choices here, only bad or worse options. From what I've read, the plan is to take out their navy and military, secure the Straits of Hormuz and as much as humanly possible, destroy their secret underground uranium facilities. Once the mullahs build nuclear weapons, the arms race will begin, which would be a frightening development. |
