In short, E. coli didn't just "happen" to the meat industry -- it's a consequence of industrial practices. But nowhere in the article (or in the halls of the USDA or the largescale beef producers for that matter) is the possibility of moving away from this corn-based system raised as a solution for the industrial system. Surprisingly, the article includes virtually no proposed solutions for this crisis -- just vague assurances that the USDA isn't "standing still" on the issue. In reality, the industry focuses exclusively on "managing" the ongoing presence of E. coli O157 though the development of an E. coli vaccine for cows, and irradiation or chemical washes for the meat. All of which are attempts to mask the risks of a failed system and represent an institutionalizing of the underlying failures. And none of which make me ever want to touch industrial meat again.

Indeed, if there ever was a powerful argument for eating only grass-fed beef from small producers, this article is it. T

This is a misleading clip headline - it's not the meat, it's the contamination that causes the problem. Have you ever worked for Fox News?

If you read the article properly, you will find that the diet is also to blame and it stated that cows fed on their natural grass-fed diet do not suffer from this disorder but cows fed on corn do have e-coli problems.

No I don't distort news as Fox does Jorjor, sorry to disappoint you on that one. I just prefer organic farming and I think we all have a right to our preferences, right?

Reading the title alone will lead to Jorojor's conclusion, which is why, as brightlight4 points out, you must read the article.

I suspect that far too many people are allowing themselves to be misled by reading only the titles of articles and running with that. They are doing themselves a grave disservice.

The way in which food processors force-fatten cattle, poultry and pigs IS hazardous to humans health (as well as to the animals health).

Jorjor and others, do yourselves a favor and read this article, it is a warning to us about our diets. Thank you brightlight4 for clipping this.

@ Disenchanted : You are soooo right, out health is affected by what animals are fed, as in Mad Cow's Disease, due to feeding cows ground bones!!! (wtf!!) which affected our health too. Now they have decided to feed cows corn when their normal diet (for which they have more than one stomach) is grass!! I don't know why on earth we have to play around with nature, just for money!!!??? And our health?
