enbar says: The DOJ has mounted an extraordinary case against the hacker who revealed Sarah Palin's apparent systematic violation of the Open Records Act (by using a private email address to conduct government business). Given that the DOJ normally doesn't care much about cyber-crime, one has to wonder how the decision to allocate those resources was made. good question! The really good news is the hacker got BUSTED and is going to JAIL. Son of a Democratic Law maker, no less. Man indicted in hacking of Palin's e-mail 20-year-old Tennessean turns himself in, faces up to 5 years in jail The son of a Democratic Tennessee state lawmaker pleaded not guilty Wednesday to hacking the e-mail account of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. David Kernell, 20, of Knoxville, Tenn. entered the plea in federal court in Knoxville, the same day prosecutors unsealed an indictment charging him with intentionally accessing Palin's e-mail account without authorization. Kernell, an e... Yes, he's a dangerous SOB all right. I'll sleep better at night. In fact I think they ought to lock up all the children of Democratic lawmakers. Still I can't help wondering why Palin was using private email addresses for state business and why she won't release those records. Enbar- I think you missed the bigger picture here. Because Yahoo offers email accounts and merchant services to stores, a breach in security can have a huge financial impact. If store owers and regular users don't feel secure because of this, they (Yahoo) lose money. You think that's o.k.? What if was Google mail or Hotmail that got hacked? You would see the same kind of reponse. Hackers undermine public trust in computer systems and that nobody can deny. The government needs to step up punishments for any computer crimes, if anything. As far as Palin using that email account for 'state business' I'd like to see real proof. So far nobody has provided ANY, just accusations. |
