Lexica says: Much too long to clip, but well worth reading. More: But what I feel is most problematic is the idea inherent in the work that women should, in some sense, face the reality that their dreams of successful entrepreneurship will never be realized. In truth, most small businesses fail. Many people — men and women — engage in the marketplace with a unique product, idea or service and fail to amass enough profit to stay afloat. The difference between men and women is that men are more often encouraged to do so then women, and encouraged to try again. Mosle's piece attempts to convince women not to take a relatively risk-free wade into the entrepreneurial waters of the American marketplace because they'll "fail," as though economic failure is something with which women cannot or should not be expected to cope. I am a member of ETSY and think it is a great place to sell your talents. Similar to EBAY except you do not pay $16.00 per month for a store. You get that for free. You cant sell junk or wholesale items manufactured from oppressed countries. You make something of your own and have a place to sell it at your price. Plus the format of the items sold are very user simple. I think they give a good service for very little money. Just having your own website would cost you $80.00 per year. I think Etsy is great. I've enjoyed everything I've purchased from an Etsy vendor. I think there is something special in an item that is crafted from a person's hands and imagination and passion. I believe that a bit of love is included in every gem, because the craftsman loves doing it. cptenaud – click through and read the original. I think you've got it the wrong way around. Slate are the ones who published the essay criticizing Etsy. Jezebel responded with a post saying "No, that's wrong, and here's why." The folks at Jezebel are very pro-Etsy. I think Etsy is great oops, meant to add: me too! Yes I know I made the mistake when i clicked post comment. Didn't want to clutter this clip with oops posts. Doesn't really matter because anyone who visits ETSY can see it is a very together site. And with the many job losses in this country. We need a place we can sell our talents to. All we need is more people looking and shopping there. For those who want to get their own opinion on this site. Just go there and check it out. http://www.etsy.com/ |
