dmegivern says: Many times I have been around people who stomped out any discussion of Palestine's plight. Essentially, if you brought it up, people call you Anti-Semitic or they look at you like you just endorsed child abuse. Because they only want to hear what they want. That is why humanity will never evolve to a higher degree. They need to SCREAM Anti-Semitism at the top of their lungs to prevent the balanced truth from becoming mainstream in the US. Remember all those "traitors" who opposed the Iraq war?? It is right and honorable to remember the horrors of the Holocaust and to mourn those lost to it, particularly so as not to see it repeated. It is wrong to use that memory as a tool of bigotry and imperialism. It is right to respect a man or woman because they are human, but not to bow down before them in deference to their religion or race. Here again we have the left wing wackos, trying to re-write history. This always was Jewish land, except when the arabs came and tossed them out. It goes along with their fear of the jews. Israel consists of less than 1/100 of all the arab lands. Why are they so afraid of the jews---CONSCIENCE--they know they are in the wrong Part of the problem is that people fail to make a distinction between the political entity known as the state of Israel and the ethnic/religious/historical people known as the Jews. Another thing that few people realize is that Arabs are a Semitic people, too. One thing I've always respected about Jews is the fact that they don't proseletyze. The problems I have about the role Israel plays in shaping US foreign policy in the Middle East (which I see no need to elaborate upon here) is political and has little to do with the religion or ethnicity of the inhabitants of that land. I don't think that any progress will take place in the Mideast until people learn to begin separating the polit... It is difficult to separate the religion from the political when the religious depart native US soil to serve in the political military of Israel. I don't think that any progress will take place in the Mideast until people learn to begin separating the political issues from matters of religion and ethnicity.I couldn't agree more, just as I don't think that any progress will take place in the US until people learn to begin separating the political issues from matters of religion and ethnicity. Quite true, BB, and it just shows that church/state separation is a good idea for any country. It may not always be the individual's choice. I only have hearsay evidence about this, but a Jewish coworker once told me that she would like to visit Israel, but that doing so put her at risk of conscription into the Israeli army. She told me that any Jewish person entering Israel became, [i]de facto[/], subject to local law, including the draft. This was a number of years ago, and I took her at her word. To stand by this, I would have to check out up-to-date references - maybe another commenter will know more about this than I do and say something about it. I have no doubt, though, that the... You know, one of the things I experienced was to see a Ph.D. research scientist I really liked-- who was Jewish, but not zionist--get drummed out of his research position. Jewish people who are not gung-ho for Israeli dominance are also silenced. Check out Mandy Patinkin's essays for example. I don't mind that Israel exists, but in the interest of humanity, I think it should be made an international park. Excellent clip and comments, everyone, Clipmarks really is the place to be... God may have given the land to the children of Abraham, and the story is remarkable. Now they are trying to do the work of God with guns, and explosives. I don't see God in Israel, They obviously don't need him when they have America. Antisemitism is becoming a cheap excuse. "Don't criticize Jews they were in the holocaust." The ones that survived were often the ones who could afford to go to America. Rich crying for the poor, sick, and crippled they deserted. The Hebrews were kicked out by the Romans, and were told by their God that this would happen. Israelis remain the children of god, while they aim to behave in a manner that god finds acceptable, or they wither, and die. They are not c... |
