As the BBC put it, Golda Meir was the "Iron Lady" of Israeli politics years before the epithet was coined for Margaret Thatcher. David Ben-Gurion once described her as "the only man in the Cabinet." She was the first (and, to date, only) female Prime Minister of Israel, and was the third female Prime Minister in the world.

I completely agree. Back in 1990's, we had such a warmonger "iron lady" here in Turkey too. She was a very unfortunate choice, for Turkish voters and she soon became a nightmare for democracy. Luckily, her political career ended 5 years ago.

I hope Ms Patil will do much much better for India.

I would be wary of any government that didn't have some ladies in power. Their more human qualities are a needed counter weight to a room full of men talking up a molehill into a mountain.
