The situation in Iraq is getting worse: Don't believe anyone who says otherwise. The surge-ified, "less violent" Iraq that the general has presided over so confidently is, in fact, a chaotic, violent tinderbox of city states, proliferating militias armed to the teeth, competing regions armed to the teeth, and competing religious factions armed to the teeth. Worse yet, under Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker, the U.S. has been the great proliferator. It has armed and funded close to 100,000 Sunnis organized into militias reportedly intent on someday destroying "the Iranians" (i.e. the Maliki government). It has also supported Shiite militias (aka the Iraqi army). In the recent offensive, i...

I could tell you all that, but those desperate for "victory" and "good news" won't listen.

18 months ago the Iraqis were pleading with the Dems in congress for the surge and for the troops to stay in Iraq. Now Maliki's government is so sure of the progress that THEY are wanting to set a timetable.

That the surge is working. Thank you Rat for admitting that.

Will the surge atone for the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis - mostly civilians - that we have killed? Will the surge replace the missing person of nearly every family? Will the surge repatriate the millions that have fled? Will the surge comfort the Daddy who held his toddler while he breathed his last breath? Will the surge explain to other nations why they should not begin a pre-emptive war against nations that seem dangerous to them?

Has the "surge" saved many more from Saddam's tyranny, genocide, terror, horror, beheadings at the soccer stadiums, repressions, torture chambers, etc.... How many "missing persons' were there under Saddam? Those who disappeared in the night? How many mass graves discovered? How many family members, to this day, do not know the fate of fathers, sons, daughters? Oh Please. The man was a monster. Look at Mugabee...another of the same ilk. Even now the *world* is shocked by his murderous and barbaric domination of people. Saddam was no different and you know it.

Never argued for Saddam. That he was wrong doesn't make us right.
It's quite a comparison you make: Our government is perhaps the only one on earth that's killed more Iraqis than Saddam Hussein.
How many family members, to this day, do not know the fate of fathers, sons, daughters?
More now than ever under Saddam. No contest.
