This is the historic Christian teaching, contrary to the heresy of Zionism (which began in 19th Century and was furthered by Scofield) which has been taught to modern evangelicals in order to justify the new Political Israel (which despises the Bible and God's laws, and has no Constitution).

Even orthodox Jews, such as Jews Against Zionism hold a similar view that rejects both Israel and Zionism, confessing that God himself destroyed it and scattered them, which Christian Zionists (an oxymoron) ignore.
