This completely disregards some basic laws of physics: Matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. If the Earth is "growing" as the film animates, then where is the mass coming from?

I do not doubt that the Earth is larger than it was when the solar system first formed. Planets and asteroids collide and make larger bodies. In fact, the leading THEORY about the Moon argues that a planet the size of Mars collided with Earth in a glancing blow. This caused the outer layer of the Earth and the rogue planet to blow-up and circle the Earth. Eventually, some of this material came back to Earth due to Earth’s gravity, and the rest coalesced to form the Moon. This theory has been supported by studies of both Moon and Earth rocks and by computer simulations.
Plate Tectonics is a THEORY, an idea supported by evidence and best explains the shape of the planet. Plate tectonics is still in action, with live subduction zones. The December 26, 2004 tsunami is an example of what happens when the Earth recycles a piece of itself.
The plates fit together because they’ve been bouncing back and forth for a while. And frankly, they don’t fit all that well in some places, as the animation misleadingly illustrates.
Oh, and one more point: If there were no oceans, where did the water come from in a mere 70 million years?

Hey thanks for bringing this out! This is very interesting though mayby a bit too radical. I think there's too many factors affecting to earth's geological appearance to fall into one single theory. What makes this interesting is I've heard even in these days there's millions of small ice metereors colliding to earth's atmosphere bringing millions of tons water on earth every year. It is know water level is slowly rising. I don't know about this "growing" thing though, Isn't the earth's core shrinking more than expanding because it gets cooler all the time.
