invictus says: Here we go again. $5, by the end of this year or middle next. My bet. Yea, I'm sure your close. We just soared to $3.17/gallon at the pump and it fluctuated all weekend. We traveled across the state (MI) yesterday and paid $3.03 to start and on the other side of the state, it was $3.17. It cost us $80 total to drive from the east coast of MI to the west coast (Muskegon); roughly a 3-1/2 to 4 hr trip one way; and back home again. We probably could have flown into Muskegon from Flint for that much. It seems pretty odd that they just found this leak. Maybe it is just convient that that this leak showed up now and it is so bad that it is in need of repair? But if it drives up the oil price in the meantime, it is more convienient. Funny -- I caught about 15 minutes of some TV show this weekend while at my hotel. I think it was called 24 or 7 or something. Anyway, there was this whole thing about the President (played by a black guy) and they showed all these telconferences happening and some CIA people or something trying to determine if the they should bomb someplace in the middle east or send in a strike team. What stood out was whomever they got initial info from would have met bom... 24 is the most racist and bigoted show on TV. I can't fathom watching it (except I went through watching it a while ago when they were stereotyping Arabs as terrorist, which I have heard they do occassionally). This is one of their most favorite right-wing show on TV. Pardon me if my comments offend you because it is your favorite show, but you're not getting anything out of that show except for gross generalization and racist stereotyping. arifsail --- I never watch tv - I just got 15 miutes of this at a hotel. I am guessin that 24 is the name of the show, since they said it at the end of the show. Anyway -- my point was not about sterotyping. My point was that their premise seemed to be around how Oil was the controlling factor for wether to bomb or pursue other action. It appeared that someone's goal (not sure of which characters) was to drive oil prices higher by doign the bombing. It just reminds me of what is occuring in the middle east now and Iraq. I am willing to be that there are more forces near oil wells and oil pipelines then any where else. For should we lose that precious oil....oh how can we survive all over the world. That's cool.. waiting for the $100 Oh,. i forgot to Thank Bush & Co for helping in raising the oil prices.. *Attaching rear-view mirrors on my lawnmower*..Time to ride in style! LOL arifsali, you should relax a little... 24 is fine ENTERTAINMENT show. It's not suppose to be educational or documentary and doesn't claim to be that. It's entertainment, just as DaVinci Code was - fictional entertainment. Of course, most elements in it are made up following either historical or current events... but it is entertainment. Last season's culprits were from Russia. I don't think American views of the Russians changed dramatically due to that show. In prior years villains were of Middle Eastern origin, that's true, but there were also from Yugoslavia, and plenty of American bad apples... going all the way to the White House... besides, if they show some Middle Eastern men en... Getting back to the topic at hand - alternative fuels need to be on the agenda of every self-respecting politician and there are plenty of examples of how companies are working very hard on bringing that to the masses to eliminate this whole oil madness. Conservation doesn't seem to be a decent answer, so alternate energy would be the way to go. I'm glad to see the prices rising, it'll only accelerate the process. People don't like changes typically and so they need to be 'pained' (i.e. prices going way up) for them to not only accept the change, but force it to happen sooner than later. The oil producing countries & companies don't seem to get that runup in prices that they keep perpetu... |
