Wow, that was a fast 1st pop! Thnx Have mercy. What the $@!# happened? Was the driver of the rig awake through all of this? Unreal, but sadly, true. I've driven that stretch of Hwy 40 many times after picking up pontoon boats in Mexico, MO and at traffic rush, 3:45 p.m. The accident happened close to the on/off ramps for I-270. Notice the guy driving next to the semi stated the semi was doing 75--was the car driver doing 75? How would he know otherwise? This stretch of the road is going up and down hills--just tall enough I'd imagine a semi-driver can't see over--traffic on this stretch of hwy can be moving at 75 and all of a sudden one tops a hill and its all stopped. The patrol states there was not alcohol or drugs involved, so an out-of-state truck driver (how many times has he driven Hwy 40 at traffic rush or how many times ever... This is in response to SATCHAMO's comment. That person driving the vehicle next to the semi is my husband and was involved in the accident. My husband was driving at 60mph. He needed to merge into the right lane to merge onto highway 270. He speed up to 65mph and the truck blew right past him. That is how he estimated the speed of the semi. Until you have all the evidence and facts of a horrific event such as this I ask that you keep comments like that to yourself as they upset the victims of the tragedy. One more comment.... if you are driving a big rig and you are an out of towner then common sense would say that you shouldn't drive at high speeds during rush hour and also when you aren't aware of what lies ahead of you. |
