This is exactly the problem with U.N. There are still all major powers making their very own decisions no matter what everyone else think. If there will be conflict betrween those powers it's noone to stop that because everyone should cooperate, not just the small ones.

I don't accept the Cuban administration either but what's the good punishing regular people. It haven't change anything before and won't do it now. They must "love" America beating them to poverty.

The Cuban gov will not change to democracy and America has no right to put this condition in place. Why would they want to change to a system that they see failing the children, the poor, etc? Are the cuban expatriate pressure groups threatening to not vote Republican unless the embargo stays in place. If human rights is an issue, the gov should see what it can do to stop children being kidnapped to become soldiers in oily Myanmar. (and Africa which has lots of minerals for greedy multinationals and their shareholders and the politicians helping the multis.)

We North Americans are quite good at hypocrisy aren't we? Here we are advertising ourselves as the champions of freedom and democracy all the while ignoring democracy and curtailing freedom at the point of a gun?

What we really mean by freedom and democracy are neoliberalism and market share. Who knew?

I always thought freedom meant the right to self determination?

Apparently not anymore.

was passed with 184 votes in favor, four against and one abstention.
Here we have 184 nations urging one other nation to go down the road of a transition to more normal relations with Cuba.

What does it do? it defies all those nations and carries on as it is , yet it expects Cuba to change to Democracy merely on the basis of 1 other country trying to force it to do so.

It must really make GWB hopping mad knowing that the long time leader of Cuba is more popular with the people of Cuba than he ever was or could be with his own people.

Long live Fidel...

Uh, yes we do. Any country can decide which countries it will trade with and which ones it won't for whatever reasons it decides.

But it goes beyond merely American products, as the U.S tries to block all trade with Cuba. Of course, its stupid, as long as the U.S. plays the Big bad Wolf, Castro and his family can call themselves the defenders of the Revolution. You want to make Castro obsolete, then open the flood gates. But its not about "liberating" Cuba, its about controlling her.
