A 7 yr old has no idea what the word impeach means, nor what protesting or politics is about. If the parents want to make a statement or cause a scene don't drag innocent little children into the fray. How could the parent know, there would be a fray? There shouldn't have been. So might believe that having the child there was a good way to teach the child about free speech etc. I agree that if it is probable to expect friction by your act of protesting that it might be better to not bring the child. If people want to protest, you must do so withing the guidelines of laws. If you do not follow the law and fail to get your permit, then you have no grounds to complain about being arrested. The police are like the rest of us. There are smart ones and some not so smart. It is when a greater majority of police (or who ever) begin to do stupid things that we should really stand up and take a big stink about it. Some might... Sorry According to the article, she was well within her Constitutional AND local rights to protest peacefully! Just because some idiot who disagrees calls the police doesn't give them the right to remove her and her daughter, who also has the right to learn about political action...if more children were aware, they'd grow up involved instead of apathetic. papananook I agree with you 100%. I didn't mean to imply that in this situation the lady failed to obey the law in anyway. Just because some idiot who disagrees calls the police doesn't give them the right to remove her and her daughter, who also has the right to learn about political action...if more children were aware, they'd grow up involved instead of apathetic.Again, a 7yr old child has NO clue about politics, rights or protests. A parent can easily educate them at home, away from crowds, police or possible harm from opposing protesters. Think about it for a second, what lesson has the child learned from being on the front line of protest? That police are bad people and not to be trusted, or that her parents rights (and hers) were violated,etc... When a child is force fed ... It is when a greater majority of police (or who ever) begin to do stupid things that we should really stand up and take a big stink about it.As in being lied to to get into a war? How about committing treason? Ignoring lawful actions of congress in self-serving deception? The mom had it right. IMPEACH!!! Again, a 7yr old child has NO clue about politics, rights or protests.Seems to me to be an unfounded assumption, Nap. We have no idea of how this child has been raised and educated, how genuinely bright she may be, and what her stance on things is. She might be one of those "home-schooled" kids we keep hearing are so very much advanced over their publicly sc... On another note, would YOU (or anyone else here) drag a 7yr old kid toSuch as the children we see so often outside of family planning clinics, be it in the news or on the street? Of course not, because a 7 yr old kid doesn't understand what's going on, and the possiblilty of someone getting hurt is a possiblilty. Just becuase you have the RIGHT to do something doesn't always mean you should do it. I wish those who displayed the oversized posters of aborted fetuses understood that. Damn! I hate it when I click the wrong button. BartendingBear As in being lied to to get into a war? How about committing treason? Ignoring lawful actions of congress in self-serving deception? The mom had it right. IMPEACH!!! YES! 100% Agreement! She wanted attention and she got it. Think about it for a second, what lesson has the child learned fromMaybe those are lessons that need to be learned. I agree that young children should be dragged to political events, any political event, but you don't see anyone getting arrested for putting their kids on clearly political rallies with the President or Presidential candidates or when politicians want to kiss babies. This wasn't meant to be about the child. It was "Independence Day" and this was just one of many peaceful demonstrations of free speech. The banners were planned, also signs were held up to traffic, "Honk to Impeach". The mainstream media just does not report these things. But they do occur, and this one was part of an action taking place throughout the USA. What better way to celebrate "Independence Day" than by proclaiming the freedoms that the day represent? As for the the child I meant to say "young children should not be dragged to political events". America is over and done, USA - RIP. What and how this woman decides to teach her child is irrelevant to the issue. During the womens sufferage movement banners were affixed to baby carriages. When things get uncomfortable for those opposing the message the first action is to find some imagined wrong doing with the victim. This is frightening. What would have happened if the woman would have refused to leave and remove the banner? Would she and her child been handcuffed? To remove her and her banner was a gross abuse of power. This is a free country. Put a copy of the bill of rights and the constitution on your refrigerator and refer to it when you have doubts about what constitutes freedom in America. Amendment I. (Establishment, Free Exercise, Speech, Press, Assembly & Petition) Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. It speaks for itself. |
