Make a caricature of that which you cannot refute. Appeals to ignorance are the tactics of the empty-minded.

Now there was I thinking it not possible to prove the non-existence of things (e.g. gods, fairies, The Celestial Teapot, The Flying Spaghetti Monster) then along comes Willhelm and proves the non-existence of a sense of humour in religious zealots.
Lighten up - please.

This is an interesting tactic I have noticed. Perhaps there is a name for it, but I don't know it. It goes like this.

Person #1 writes (or clips) a piece which is obviously meant to drive home a point, albeit in a humorous, satirical way.

Person #2 comes along and challenges the point of view presented.

Person #1, instead of responding to the criticism with lucid arguments, says "lighten up!"

Everybody else chides person #2 for having no sense of humor.

I would suggest that when someone says (clips) that a creationist thinks that "evolution can't be true, since I lack the mental capacity to understand it", they may have crossed the line from satire to serious insult.
