thisnamecantbetaken says: In the US these could very well be Republican talking points! Funny you should say that, AL. Here's a comment from below the article: "What a fantastic idea! at least there are some politicians out there who aren't afraid to speak out against the left wing/politically correct/pathetic system which our countries are being ruled by....... good on ya mate!" The lack of concern for fellow humans is truly troubling. Regrettably, the most vocal proponents seem to come from the Religious Right /politically conservative. There philosophy is masked by reference to "individual responsibility", "government handouts", and "personal initiative". There is nothing inherently bad with these concepts but all too often they are used as moral bludgeons to accuse people from lower economic classes of being morally deficient. The accusers live in a black and white world where it's "my way or the highway". They lack empathy and even use their cold heartlessness as a weapon, accusing people who care as bleeding hearts. Well, I'm glad I'm a bleeding heart and have never felt the need to apologize for it. Like you, I'd also much rather have a bleeding heart, than no heart at all. No doubt about it. |
