He said he was glad he went to school for chemistry and biology, because, since he read and wrote for his own amusement, there were no English teachers to tell him how to write or what to read. He credited that aspect of his education with his lifelong feeling that reading and writing were fun.

So, I think that, in KV's honor, we should all ignore his rules and discover our own.
