I cannot help but wonder about the intellect of any individual who does not understand that the freedoms granted in our foundational documents are meant to protect their rights as part of the majority, as much as the rights of the minority, and that to move in the direction of a nation guided by one set of religious beliefs is to abandon those principles which have enabled us to come as far as we have. To live as they suggest would be the ruin of this great nation. Just for the sake of argument (don't really want to say devil's advocate), the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution says "CONGRESS shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...". It doesn't say that the states can't do so. As you remember correctly, the amendments were designed so as to take power from the federal government and give it to the states. And as always you forget the 14th amendment. |
