This reminds me of a quote from Mother Theresa, "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." Mother Theresa understood that by focusing on 'anti-war', even though the intention seems commendable the emphasis is still on 'war'. Likewise, if you're focusing on changing an old habit, you're still focusing on that habit; therefore feeding it. In short, old habits die hard. But forming a new habit which counteracts the old one might be a better alternative. She was very wise... |
