Evidence from the Scooter Libby trial shows that the Valerie Plame outing is small potatoes in comparison to the deliberate fabrication of evidence that led the United States into an ill-conceived war. Did Bush know that he lied to the Nation when he claimed in his State of the Union speech that Saddam Hussein planned to obtain enriched uranium from Niger? I've often wondered why Bush rewarded Tenet with the Medal of Freedom when at the time he was considered to have failed in his job to prevent 9/11 and the supposed weapons of mass destruction had not been found. An impeachment trial is needed to answer many questions about the conduct of this Administration.

First, Bush said that this is what British intelligence believed which was true. Second, Nigerian officials have confirmed that Saddam did attempt to set up a trading partnership with Niger which means the Brits were right.

Saddam didn't have the savvy to do any of the things he was accused of doing by the CIA and Bush. He wasn't even smart enough to mount an intelligent defense at his trial beyond bullying and yelling. The man was never a threat to anyone other than the unfortunate people in Iraq who died under his dominion. Bush lied through his teeth and Cheney did his best to cover it up. They both need to be impeached and the sooner they are, the sooner we can start rebuilding international relationships. The problem goes far beyond Bush and Cheney, but they are a good starting point.

The British Assessment came out in July 2004. Tenet's mea culpa letter was written in 2003 when the State of the Union address was given (1/28). The Assessment doesn't change the fact that under the Cheney's direction Libby, Martin, and Hadley burned the midnight oil to concoct a method for Tenet to take the fall for the Niger statement. The fact that the letter was written tells me that when the Niger statement was re-inserted into the State of the Union Speech, Cheney, Libby Tenet, Martin and possibly Bush thought it was a lie.

They "wrote a statement [for Tenet] in 2003 to be released in 2004."

" Why? Was this a game plan to deflect blame for when the claims about Niger, weapons of ...

Nations enter in all kinds negoations all the time, world wide business my friend. The report was debunked, not yellow cake from Niger made it to Saddam, nor was it trade it for. But of course you want that...you so want it and the neocons want it...

as for exports... I heard that Saddam liked to coat his palaces with gold:

Exploitable deposits of gold are known to exist in Niger in the region between the Niger River and the border with Burkina Faso. On October 5, 2004 President Tandja announced the official opening of the Samira Hill Gold Mine in the region of Tera and the first Nigerien gold ingot
was presented to him. This marked a historical moment for Niger as the

Of course. That must be it. Saddam just wanted a new ring which is why he sent someone to Niger to try and set up a trade deal. After all, we know he wasn't getting nearly enough gold or money through his UN Oil for Palaces program.

Dear Sparlingphoto,

We should never say never, but I suspect that you are absolutely correct, there will never be an impeachment trial. The central question in the full-article is why. This isn't "mental masturbation," or a longing for impeachment. Its part of an important debate about the state of our Democracy. Did the Clinton impeachment make the Congress wary? After all, what a fiasco. Is there just plain fear of angering voters? Would a trial divide the country even further? Would a trial reveal more about the role of Congress, or other influential parties outside of government.? Or are we all just plain tired and confused and just don't want to deal with it as in this administration...

However, you CAN get behind impeaching Dracula, I mean Dick Cheney

Support House Resolution 333
. Get your government back from the rightwing nutjobs at the PNAC.

(1) Despite all evidence to the contrary, the
Vice President actively and systematically sought to
deceive the citizens and Congress of the United
States about an alleged threat of Iraqi weapons of
mass destruction:
