Capt A, an expatriate who left the American shores 35 years ago quoted Henry L. Menchen in a comment he posted to a blog on Sotomayer, Freedom, and the law. I myself am similarly troubled by the yoke of our supposed democracy. Like any organism, the United States will do what it takes to survive. For an organism as large and as powerful as the United States "what it takes" is a frightening thought.
