You cannot justify taking a weapon when teaching.
I understand her fear, but she took the job - her choice.
I worked in prisons, was in a lock down situation during a riot -my choice.
Strangely, it was while working in the ER that I was kicked in the leg and in the stomach, had a plant thrown at me, and a knife pulled on me. My choice. I never once thought of taking any kind of weapon.
