invictus says: Thanks to the "super intelligent" order of the Istanbul court, which added Turkey's name high on the "censorship list" with China, Saudi Arabia and other anti-democratic countries. Now millions of users can't access YouTube. Bravo! Wow. That stinks! Can you still see youTube videos through clipmarks? No Mousie, unfortunately I can't. Though I can access YouTube, using various "tricks" (which I don't want to mention here) but it's very slow this way and not worth all the hard work. It's very stupid. There is no end to banning sites and restricting access. Then which comes next? Google Video? IFilm? It's ridiculous and there began a wide-spread reaction here among the Internet users. Hopefully the ban will be lifted soon. Hopefully they won't ban clipmarks! Though perhaps the French might, since they are banning amateur journalism. One never knows these days. Finally, the ban was lifted today after 2 days interruption. YouTube is accessible again. Well, that turned around pretty fast. Good news! I'm glad you have it back. Although I am not a big fan of spending time watching online vids, I did hear that our local police station intends on setting up a web cam and processing video through YouTube to prove to their Detroit citizens how hard at work they are. They also intend to use YouTube to post photos of wanted criminals. I think this is a very positive way to use YouTube and why I think the Turkish govt might want to re-evaluate their reasons for knocking their citizens offline (re banning some sites that could prove useful even to them - the Turkish govt). Maybe they would benefit to consider following suit. Wow. Invictus, what turned it around so quickly? Or do you know? Oh, now see. I need another cup of coffee. That's the problem with the random feature. I need to pay attention to the dates. Thorne, the YouTube ban created wide reactions and protests throughout the country, especially from the youth and in 48 hours it was lifted. But it was a really "disturbing" experience for the Internet users and free speech supporters here. |
