kmcolo says: RABBI MICHAEL LERNER: Well-- I'm hoping we have a few more years here. And I think in the 21st Century the growing wisdom of the American people and of all people is that our well being depends on the well being of everyone else on the planet, and I think that the Israeli population increasingly are coming to understand that their well being depends on the well being of Palestinians and of the Arab world. That there's that fundamental interdependence. DR. TIMOTHY WEBER: Paul Boyer, who is a now-retired historian from the University of Wisconsin, wrote a book called WHEN TIME SHALL BE NO MORE. And he studied this phenomenon, called prophecy belief in America. And he explained that the influence of this group, of this perspective, of dispensational perspective goes way beyond the confines of its own boundaries. He said if you view America in terms of this issue in concentric circles, you have this core maybe 20 million of really dedicated dispensationalists who give you chapter and verse, who can give you-- draw the battle maps of the future and everything. I think this is one of the most important stories of our time. Our foreign policy, our politics, and our nation will be driven by some toward a confrontation that they see as 1) being biblically justified, 2) being required for fulfillment of their beliefs. The Middle East is a powder keg of confrontation in which people are now positioning themselves for all out Holy War. They desire this war to set the stage for the second coming/return of the mufti. Into this scene come two sane voices who call out to us and tell us how to approach the subject and how to defuse this very dangerous bomb. This show should be watched/listened to by everyone. It is indeed an important story. Scary, but representative of one strand of thinking in the US. Fanatics, by any other name.... Fanatics, by any other name....Maybe so. But it is not enough to distance yourself and call them names. The barrier between the strident secular-institutionalists and the mildly to mostly religious needs to be broken down. This does not mean giving up these important secular institutions. It does mean listening and understanding that not everyone (including many secular-institutionalists like myself) are looking for more than the simple materialistic model for meaning in the world. But it is not enough to distance yourself and call them names. If that came across as accusatory, sorry. Not my intention. Oh no, I am not suggesting that anyone should give up. The more light is shun on this the better. I guess I grew up around people like these and its easy (perhaps to easy) to dismiss them. Thanks for the clip. Great clip. I think the point here, put bluntly, is that there are some important political constituencies in the U.S. that would like to see the foreign policy of the U.S. turned into an instrument for fomenting conflict for conflict's sake, because they believe this will usher in the end times. enbar, Nicely and succinctly put. One day I will actually master succinctness, but likely on my deathbed. I quite agree with kmcolo that this an important subject. If you want to investigate one of the more arcane aspects of this, Google up "the red heifer". The quote below is from a policy statement of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. It would be difficult to argue that this a liberal institution. Bishop Munib Younan, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jerusalem and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), has stated, "When religion is twisted to fit a political agenda based on violence, hate and war, it is an abuse of religion. In some Christian churches, the whole Bible - Old and New Testaments - is used in an eschatological way, using the apocalyptic books to justify the destruction of the Dome of ... "When religion is twisted to fit a political agenda based on violence, hate and war, it is an abuse of religion. This is so true. Great clip. Too many of those talking, have no idea of the meaning of the word Israel. It describes submission to the Authority of God. There is the pretense that the 'Promised Land' is purely a description of the physical territory of Palestine, and there has always been a proviso, That the promised land was legitimately held while those who are the children of Israel are subject to the will of God. The Israel of which the Bible speaks, is ultimately, neither, carnal, territorial, or institutional. Ezekiel 14:14-23 i think religion is made 4 people with small belief. people with great belief .. simply, do not need religion. syncopath, u should change ur name to psychopath instead. suits u better. if u dont believe in religion, just keep it to urself. there's no need to say people with religion have small belief. i think that is u who has small belief. If u dont believe in GOD, that's ur problem. And by the way, u'll find a great place along side the zionism. Amazing. I just commented on another clip about religious intolerance. It fits here too, as follows: -- Monotheistic religions are inherently intolerant, and often violently so (as with Judaism, Christianity, Islam). Monotheistic gods cannot tolerate the worship of other gods, and remind adherents of it. ("For I am a jealous god", etc.") Adherents then think less of those who do not worship their god, and intolerance of others outside their particular faith ensues. (For example, the Colonial pioneers thought little of killing the American Indians because they were heathens, not Christian. Such scenarios saturate history. The Crusades, fundamental Islam, the non-ability of atheists to get... syncopath. Did you just get a bit of religious intolerance? 1st, i would like 2thank AcesLucky 4 pouring some light on this dark ages topic known from times immemorial as: " The Human INTOLERANCE." your words are wise & clear. we are lucky 2have u here .. -)) 2nd, tabsey, think i didn`t get yr point .. ?! intolerance - and especially religious intolerance is one of the contexts we human beings succeed 2b very creative about & very colorful on it`s ways of execution.(from the famous crucifixion going on to burning the witches till these very days of war, terror & tribal genocides). even a bit of this intolerance is one beat too much !! 3rd, dear hozeyzachary, you don`t know me & i don`t know you (i am not a zionist BTW). i ap... Part of what really gets to me is the way that these nutbags are fueled by a desire to "hasten" the end times. Do they REALLY think they can force God's hand? What happened to doing God's will? Wouldn't that include doing it on God's schedule and at his time? The ARROGANCE these people have to think that what we pesky humans do here on Earth is going to make God change whatever plans he may have is astounding. They don't worship God, they want to control him - or worse - be him. "Our job is to reclaim America for Christ, whatever the cost," Kennedy says. "As the vice regents of God, we are to exercise godly dominion and influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government, our literature and arts, our sports arenas, our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors -- in short, over every aspect and institution of human society." The above is a quote from D. James Kennedy[dec'd]. He is the former Pastor of Coral Ridge Ministries and one of those with whhom Bush would regularly consult on various matters -presumably foreign policy. See for yourself, Google Dominionists and D. ames Kennedy. See for yourself, Google Dominionists and D. ames Kennedy.I just did. This 2005 Rolling Stone article is scary! if you know there is a suspicious mosque in your community orDamn right. You don't need to be a Christian to have common sense. The one in Boston that caused locals of any and no demonination to raise eyebrows was delved into, only to find out they were closely associated with Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who is of the Muslim Brotherhood http://www.expertclick.com/NewsReleaseWire/default.cfm?Action=ReleaseDetail&ID=17912 http://www.douglasfarah.com/article/245/the-muslim-brotherhood-in-america-defined-as-threat-organization-in-dod-memo and now locals can be aware of what they have in their midst. If it ... pack the nation's make it a felony for gay men ultimate goal is to plant the seeds of a "As the vice regents of God, we are to exercise godlyOhh come on ! Is this the b.s. that is in the minds of all you guys... ". . .almost NOBODY is like THAT. At least I hope so." Well, so do I. Then again, if you poke around a bit you find stuff like this: As Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court explained a few months later, [after the election]the Bible teaches and Christians believe “… that government …derives its moral authority from God. Government is the ‘minister of God’ with powers to ‘revenge,’ to ‘execute wrath,’ including even wrath by the sword…” [parenthasis mine] "First Things" Anton Scalia Maybe it's not so much paranoia, as paying attention. |
