"On Intelligence" models the neocortex (the especially human layer) as a remarkably adaptable hierarchy that learns patterns of increasing sophistication using the thalamus as a sequencing clock in a manner reminiscent of computer hardware. The Numenta model is called HTM - Hierarchical Temporal Memory. Free software and tools are available for hacker experimentation.

Remember HAL from 2001 a Space Odyssey. His actions were a result of corrupt input Data. Could we create AI, and provide False or incorrect data that would render the program disfunctional. If we told it the Truth, what would it's opinion of Humanity be? What if it got the Idea that it had created itself?

pokkets: You are talking about some far-off future. This conceivably has some possibility to it but will be in the "suppose" stage for some time to come. If you want more, check the videos of the follow-on clip.

I know my comment was both paranoid and shallow. We won't discover anything if we don't look, and who knows what we might find out on the way. We just have to be careful that we don't learn things so quickly that we don't develop the Wisdom to apply our Knowledge. That is the disadvantage of wanting things Now.
