zizzy says: I am laughing with joy and crying. I've cried so much, even during McCain's speech. Another dream fulfilled - the dream since I was eight years old. I wish my mother was alive. She ran away from the Jim Crow south shortly after her first cousin, my cousin, a man named Huey was tortured and lynched. Thanks everyone who helped make this dream come true. I love you all. My mom and dad are gone, too. They wouldn't have believed it, but it's true. America is living up to its promise, what makes it so great. Our slave master eventually freed our family, since some of them were now his sons and daughters, before the Emancipation Proclamation by way of Ohio from Virginia. I wish they all could see the progress that the dream of our founding fathers had for this country; that we are all created equal. I have never been more proud of my country for insisting on living up to that. We can put race behind us and start being what we all are... Americans. Very very moving, thank you zizzy. Truly. Thanks! @AcesLucky - our families have shouldered a hard burden: but we are here. I am proud of my heritage, being descended from strong people who contended and won. @Socratoad and masbury - both of you are very welcome. I did not vote for Obama but as a black man I am definitely proud for America. I was also proud when whites voted for JC Watts in an all white region. I only wish that race wasn't used so often to ignore Obama's radicalism. I've read much of this from people here like masbury who using race to divide. I wonder if Obama would have won if blacks would have been less discriminatory than whites. Nothing radical about Obama. And as long as I know Masbury he has done the opposite of what you accuse him of doing. That's an interesting opinion given that whites have the longest track record of discrimination. I say that there is nothing wrong with voting for Barack because he is black. Being white has been the leading qualifier for the office of the President of the United States since 1776. Being classified as white by our government gave every single white (and male - the next remedy needed), Presidential candidate automatic qualification: no one else need apply. If people voted for Barack because of his race is say kudos! because they are responsible for ending de facto disqualification from the Presidency because of race. As I write the popular vote totals are 63,907,112/56,403,505. Of McCa... @ kenstipe You wrote: "I wonder if Obama would have won if blacks would have been less discriminatory than whites." I would have voted for Hillary. I would have voted for anyone wanting to reverse the damage of the Bush administration. But Hillary was my first choice before I ever heard of Obama. But more importantly, Obama, in my opinion given his education and vision, was a far better qualified candidate than McCain by a long shot. The proof was in the organizational ability to involve and engage an enormous amount of people from all walks of life, to pull all in the same direction for the same purpose. That takes a great amount of skill! Compare that to the McCain campaign and his... @kenstipe You wrote: "... like masbury who using race to divide"? Masbury???? Using race to divide? Masbury??? You sure didn't write that wrong? I guess I do not know masbury like you. My first impression was that he was using race to cause division on more than one occasion. My limited run-ins have led me to believe he is not open to reality. "Open to reality?" Is anybody? Nevertheless, unless it was reciprocal with that person, it would be unethical to discuss another ClipMark citizen in a social forum like this. And also in poor taste. Now, we could discuss his ideas! But though I find his "source" of inspiration to be from a source that does not inspire me, I do find the nature of his ideas to be of the utmost humane. And as a humanist myself, I'm afraid I'd be defending the position of another with reasons he my not himself employ, which would be a disservice to his own. Such conversations would, thus, be better had with Masbury. |
