Interesting. But, don't forget that Kiri asked them to pick a good or bad doll, leaving them with no option but to choose one. That in itself leads to stereotyping and was not an appropriate question. Also, all of the kids didn't choose a white doll as a favorite, or as the 'bad' one. Plus, she didn't test white kids to see what they would choose. Just because some of the black children picked a white doll doesn't necessarily mean they have low self esteem. Is the point supposed to be that kids should only identify with their own race....that would fit the description of racism. It was sad to see one black child asked "Which is the bad doll?" - she chose the darker one - and was then asked, "Which one looks more like you?" The look on her face was heartbreaking. |
