RecordSage says: Last week I was fortunate enough to visit Clipmarks HQ in New York. I didn't meet everyone but did manage to shake hands with Eric G. and Adam and therefore you'll pardon the fact that I haven't been washing that hand since... I was visiting family on a 4-day trip to the Big Apple and asked Eric via e-mail if it would be ok to stop by, in case I'm in the neighborhood. He was kind enough to let me do so. I arrived in New York, one of my favorite cities to visit, always in awe when I walk down the busy streets of Manhattan... the last time I was in New York was 10 years ago... My cousin and I arrived at the specified address only to find a huge building, not atypical site in Manhattan. After opening the door and getting inside I quickly realized that I'll have to get past security first. I look and see a structure that separates me from him and as part of that structure is a computer, which allows you to enter ... You got to blog this whole story, RS. When I uttered the name - the man thought for a moment and stated that there's a company with one of the names I mentioned and he'd call them. I thought I hit the jackpot. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. He said that he couldn't verify info and turned to another person who apparently knew what he was doing in that building. I almost turned to leave when the man looked at my face and must've felt sorry for me (I know I was at that time) and he said he'll try another number. I figured I'd go through the motions and let him call but... and to my surprise - it was Eric G. on the other end of the line and not only that - he actually remembered who I was The bottom line - as in the M&M commercial - "THEY DO EXIST!!!" and I'm very fortunate and greatful that I was able to visit with them personally. It's hard for most people to comprehend... but when you come out of USSR - after having access to almost nothing and having almost nothing - one tends to have certain musicians and other celebrities viewed in a very special light. Not all, but certain ones. I have this immense admiration for people who do something exceptionally well. Mostly this fascination is with musicians, but really true of anything done exceptionally well and thus I wouldn't go as far as elevating some people to the holy level, but something just below that. I've always... P.S. I wanted to visit CM HQ in my new Clipmarks T-shirt that I ordered from the site, but apparently other companies aren't as astute as Clipmarks and so I haven't received the T-shirt before the trip. Not sure if the guys beat some heads in on my behalf or what, but one day after returning - I got an e-mail that my CM t-shirt has been shipped (hopefully to the right place). Now that you've read all of this and know that you can actually get a Clipmarks T-shirt - GO AND ORDER ONE (or more)!!!! and support Clipmarks... !!!! Eric, Adam and the rest of the guys are too polite to say something like that and never would.. but I'm not, so I certainly did and will... Hey, it's a free country! a... for reading they do exist...i'll pop this up. seriously, it must have been a visit. i enjoyed reading the foyer-security part. Oleg, your words are too kind. and though they don't feel deserved, your compliments are greatly appreciated. it's very rewarding to know that our work on clipmarks brings happiness to people. as we talked about when we were together, i definitely have to figure out how to grow clipmarks into a business (as you put it, we need to eat i couldn't be happier that we had a chance to meet in person...until next time, i'll see you in the clipiverse!! RecordSage, congratulation! i concur with arifsali, blog the whole story, nothing is better than a blog from an inspired journey, or should i say Holy Journey? Think of this entry as a blog. I don't have a blog about myself, just a few about my kids and as important this visit was for me - it wouldn't be relevant to post it in my kids' blogs. I wanted to share this visit with the CM crowd and I can't think of a better medium to do so than on Clipmarks. I appreciate the sentiment, but this exclusive will only be available to general public here. Makes sense, RS. Ah, the search for the holy grail was successful. Thanks so very much fur posting it here Sage. Oleg, It was a pleasure getting to meet you. Your kind words and sincere attitude towards us and what we're doing with Clipmarks is such wonderful inspiration to keep forging ahead. The 3 Erics will attest to the fact that I had a cheeseburger for lunch today in your name (can't be a skeleton forever Keep rockin and good luck with all of your web endeavors. I trust this won't be your last visit to Clipmarks HQ. Thanks again, Adam Oleg, I'm very sorry I couldn't be there to meet you... It would have been to my pleasure. You have always been a valuable asset to Clipmarks and your kind words are greatly appreciated! Thank you, Adam. The pleasure was all mine and I don't want you eating burgers on my account... if you're happy & healthy - that's what counts. Thanks for your wishes - I'll do my best, we'll see what happens and even though I'm not sure when I'll make it to the Big Apple next time, whenever it happens - I'll be sure to stop by and see you guys... although I hope by that time you'll be so big (CM, not your personally) that I'll have to pass through retina scans and leave DNA samples Take care, my best to Clipette (sorry I didn't meet her) in her theater career... perhaps she'll be bringing her show to Seattle some day - I'd love to see her perform. Derek, thanks! Perhaps next time. And my absolute best wishes to all of you and your families. There are very few people in the industry that do what you do and accomplish what you've already accomplished. If you've read some of my clips - you probably know that I'm a huge Beatles fan and in one of the movies about them they always stated that they're going to the very top, even though they weren't known at that time. I hope the same happens with Clipmarks. All of you deserve it... big time... all the way to the very top! Thanks to all of you for your kind words and warm reception, both of which are very much appreciated! RS, NYC is one of my daughter's favorite places to visit; she loves everything about it! It's really nice to hear about your trip and get to see Eric and Adam, and to be able to personalize the hard work and talent that created the clipmarks site. I have to disagree on one thing and tell Adam that "you can never be too thin, baby" Thanks again for sharing, RS, and I'm ordering a clipmarks t-shirt soon! RS, You are the envy of all of the Clippers! Thank you for your blog. I enjoyed every word of it. It felt like we were there with you. We already knew they are great guys. Glad to know you got to meet them. Kudos to all of you! (p.s. If you want to start a blog, there are sites that will help you get started.) @debbyski - New York is an incredible place, no question there... but I have to disagree with your disagreement, mostly because I've seen Adam up close and you haven't and I've also felt some serious winds outside and certainly wouldn't want to see Adam literally blown away at some point. Like I said as long as he's healthy - thin part isn't a factor... but he's pushing the envelope a bit. @dorine1722 - thanks for your sentiments. It was nice to visit with THE guys, as I stated above and I'm familiar with the blogging concept, has been diligently doing so for each of my 2 kids so when they grow up and their father can't remember anything - they could literally relive their entire childhood by reading these blogs, with all the good times, bad times, funny times, photos etc. I have a video of myself sitting in a tub and scrubbing the old belly (I was 1 year old at the time). It's black & white and has no sound, playing at a different frame rate than normal, but I love watching the entire 1 minute of it. I have a video of my sister being 1 week old, just brought home from the ... RecordSage, too bad I was not in the office when you dropped down. Maybe next time, we will get to meet. However, I don't blame you if you consider my absence further evidence to the conspiracy. Thanks for sharing this great clip. I'm sorry I missed you too, Eric W. Eric G. explained to me how you guys exemplify distributed computing (or development in this case). Next time I'm in town, I'll let you know ahead of time, get a nice cake from a Russian deli (as much as I dislike them - they do make good cakes) and we'll do a little party (first big piece going to Adam, of course). After all this talk on this subject - I'm already wanting another trip your way I only popped this because I saw the word BUSH somewhere in the comments..... Wrong clip...it was in the linked to clip: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/E3A26FEF-C6CF-4680-B807-5C978820BA55/ Damn, now I'll have to pop that one too. . Well, in that case, thisnamecantbetaken - we'll all be eternally greatful for your generous popping skill. Yeah well, it seems like somebody's gotta do the dirty work around here. Ha ha! Anyway! Fab to hear about your trip RS. Fab idea with the blogs for your kids too. That's a really good idea. . I tried to keep up a blog for my five year old documenting what he did in school, but then I couldn't keep up after few days and now he's six already. May be your comments will give me some motivations to start again. Look at it this way - you've disciplined yourself enough to use Clipmarks consistently - so think of it as an extension to clipmarks. If that doesn't do the trick - in theory (and practice, actually) you could use Clipmarks for personal blog. The only problem there would be the photos, since if you want different photos for different postings - you couldn't just have one private clip with your child's name and have comments be the blog entries (although for text-only you certainly could). I realize I'm way off topic here, but just think if you had a record how you were when you were 1 or 2 years old. When your first tooth came out, what the first word you said was, and zillion other impo... Actually you're right, my son already likes to pop (no surprise) and he's already made me clip few private clips of what he likes (if I were to clip them as public then you may wonder about my mental state). I sometime wonder if the future may be a lot different for our children then how it is for us now? I mean, with all the explosion of communication, gadgets, computers etc, you never know if the children of today may never feel nostalgic about their past, especially like how we do. Of course their life will be a lot different... my son was born with an e-mail account, I didn't know what color TV was until about the age 10 or so... with the pace of technology - no question their life will be different, but you're absolutely right about nostalgia... not that I miss my b&w TV, but I still look fondly at my old photos... seeing people who are no longer here... it's important to remember them, the events of yesteryear etc., no so much from a standpoint of wanting to bring it back, but to teach the next generation how it used to be and reflect on the past.. even philosophically at times. And don't worry about anyone wondering about your mental state... if your son thinks it... RS--I know we are way off topic here, but I just wanted to tell you how strange all this is right now. I've just started typing up the journal I kept of my daughter from the day she was born. It only goes to age 4, because I didn't have time to keep adding to it. Very busy age...Anyway, I want to type it up for her to have. I didn't want to forget a single moment of her life. When I told her I was doing this (oh, no, not another project!), I could tell she's very pleased. I want to have it complete, on CD, by her 18th birthday in Aug. I just can't believe my baby girl is already graduating from high school (we're homeschoolers). The kids nowadays have videos of themselves when they... Actually, Dorine1722, you're not that far off topic. The topic was about me visiting these awesome guys from NYC that came up with this incredible tool allowing us to have these kinds of conversations... so it's not that far off topic if you think about it. I would've unlikely kept a journal like you had, because I'm just not into pens and paper... luckily there are now mediums I feel comfortable with that allow me to still accomplish the same goal. I think that's why blogs have been so popular... I'm sure your daughter would love your gift, not only because of what it says, but the fact that you were so busy and still took the time to record these events - that's a very big deal. To p... With all my respect for CM guys - I'D LIKE TO GET COMMENT EDITING AFTER THE POSTING!!! PLEASE!!! Take my 'surprise' button away, even take the 'search' away if you have to but please let me edit my comments after they've been posted... pretty please! What do you want me to do? Beg in Russian? I meant to say 'daughter's phone camera' and 'seriously' Hey! Just got my George Soros-RED CM t-shirt in the mail... stay tuned for another story... Nice, can't wait to see it. Here you go, Adam... |
