righthand says: "Established in 1935, Neturei Karta is an Orthodox Jewish group that rejects Zionism and calls for the peaceful dismantling of Israel, citing Jews are forbidden from having their own state until the coming of the Messiah." I hesitated to welcome this clip, because I reckon phrases like "[any] holy land will return to the [XYZs]" as a most dangerous mixture of nationalistic and religious hubris. When will the goddamned hazardous lunacies of nationalism and zealotism conk out at last? The Israeli policies of collective punishment, apartheid and the slow starvation of over a million people in Gaza continues right before our very eyes. I'm no fan of Neturei Karta, but I am appalled by Israel's continued activity in Gaza, as well as their continuation of the expanding of the illegal settlement. On one hand they keep saying they want to reach a two-state peace solution, and then they find every excuse not to live up to their side of the "road map." The U.S. has got to put increased pressure on Israel to stop the settlements and the incursions. Bush has also got to give up his refusal to include Hamas in talks, because they are the governing party in Gaza, and a peace agreement cannot be reached strictly by dealing with the opposition. |
