zasel says: This article was very difficult to clip effectively. It truly spells out the tragedy of John McCain's fall from grace. A man who sold his integrity and core beliefs when he smelled, up close, the strong, aroma of power. He betrayed his own family after they were slandered by the vicious Bush team in 2000 and literally wound up kissing his enemies cheeks in order to fall into the good graces of the Evangelical base. He further ensured this by snuggling up to all the Evangelical leaders who smeared and libeled him during the campaign because the taste of power was so strong. Once a man even I as a Liberal could proudly support, he is now just a shadow of a man who at one time exemplified political greatness. A tragedy, indeed. Please take the time to read the complete article. I very much hold the same sentiments about the man. What a loss the posture he at one time had is. He could have defined the term statesman in the modern time, at least as it stands between the left and right, but he blew it. And ya know BartendingBear, it really makes no sense to me. He always prided himself on being the "straight talker." He claimed to never put politics ahead of his beliefs, and yet, since 2004 the guy has sunk into the sewer with the rest of them. I remember all too well what the Bush campaign did to him, his wife and his child in the 2000 campaign. He was livid, and who the hell could blame him. He also had no use for Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson or their ilk because of their low hitting and destructive attacks on him and his family. And yet, after criticizing Bush and the way the Iraq war had been screwed up, he suddenly makes an about face and becomes Bush'e biggest supporter in 2004... |
