thisnamecantbetaken says: People were gripped with fear, as the title of the book lunged threateningly out towards them. What horror! Just goes to show, how dumb some people can be.... or is this really a sign that culture and education are not what the masses want.... Obviously, they could read the word Terrrorist... Wonder how many words they CAN read.... Be interesting to know what percentage of people after leaving school still picks up a book to read...... There is so much ignorance on this planet that I am amazed it has survived this long. POP for TN's comment. Just when you think it's too damn embarrassing to be a US citizen, and you start seriously thinking about learning another language, such as, oh, Japanese or Sanskrit, in hopes of better odds of civilized dialogue, along comes an Aussie to return your sense of perspective. >Grinning, ducking and running like hell< sigh...sorry for the rednecks up there...i recall getting kicked out of a pub in noosa in '83 cos i looked aboriginal! The Australian Aboriginals weren't even counted as people until 1967. Before that, they came under the Flora and Fauna Act. Stupidity knows no borders. just when you start to think things can't get any crazier... People gripped in terror = terrorists winning make a pledge to yourself not to live in fear (like most people)...i don't fear the Gov't (and i don't believe them), don't fear the "terr'ists", don't fear living, dying or loving....fear annoys me, mostly. And i'll read whatever i want, wherever i want, thank you Stupidity knows no borders.........thats right tnc As a child I was always being told, "Curiosity killed the cat".... The reply was "Information brought it back!"... This I knew... so I'd dash off to the library and quench my thirst for knowledge.... Nowadays, public libraries are rare to come by and their opening timetables are either when you're at school or at work... so if you can afford the time and money to go browseing around for the books you need... you're likely to be reading them, as you make the most of the few minutes in between appointments..... at a cafè, at the bus stop, on a bus, on a train, waiting on a queue.... I would avoid that pub, as I'd avoid any joint renowned for the ignorance of it's personnel and clientele....... The Australian explanation would normally be "Queenslanders, say no more." But this shows bigotry and ignorance beyond humour. |
