Ok.. it was really hard to clip this article, so please go read it for yourselves & come back and comment.

Also, keep in mind this was written by Jason Whitlock, an African American columnist for the Kansas City Star. I say that because when I read it, i was all like: "If a white-dude wrote this, he's dead". Which tells you exactly what kind of world we live in.

I completely agree with Whitlock, society and the culture around hip-hop has a lot to do (IMO) with how our kids, see the world. Music, movies, Games glorify violence, illegal activity, etc. IMO its a form of abuse.

Now, I'm a full proponent of free speech, and I don't think pretty much anything should be censored from the public, what I do think is that our parents, our educators, or communities have to do more to raise kids to know the difference between fantasy, and reality. We also have to put more effort into helping those who don't necessarily have the means to "rise above".

Again, I don't think censoring games, music, etc is the answer. I do think that a better rating system around these media (especially music & videos) needs to be put in place and enforced.

The only warning that a parent gets for music is "explicit lyrics", which can mean anything. What about videos on MTV? VH1? MuchMusic? They are explicit in their own rights, showing "gangsters" with their hoes and guns, and money, and alluding to drugs, violence (if its not outright portrayed), the gross objectification of women, etc. And people whine about video games. Get a fucking grip.

TV isn't much better. Shows aimed at youth are full of situations showing kids/teens caught up in sexual affai...
