I am always interested in these articles that seem to single out the US. Other nations cut and run, too. For example, whatever happened to the French in Indochina, or the British empire, or the Portuguese in Goa, or... The answer: they cut and ran.

British Empire cut and ran on allies? Are you saying they made allies out of Indians whom they came to rule without invitation?

geneven, you're refering to colonisation. Like arifsali said Britain and France didn't "cut and run", they colonised regions and were kicked out.

Yes, kicked out is a better term. The best example of cut and run in current times is American's turning away from Afghanistan after the so called Mujhahideen kicked Russians out. Bush has even acknowledge this act when he was trying to redo the same after 9/11. So count Afghanistan twice when it comes to America cutting and running.
